Short Bio
  • Dr. Thiagarajan Raman obtained his PhD in 2006, in the area of Invertebrate Immunology, more specifically on the role of free radicals in the cellular immune responses of freshwater prawns. Subsequently he joined Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, as a postdoctoral fellow and worked on the role of guanine nucleotide exchange factor in neurogenesis and then to School of Pharmacy, University of Colorado, Denver for his postdoctoral research on the “paradoxical anti-inflammatory” role of TNF alpha signaling in Rheumatoid Arthritis. Subsequently, after serving as a guest faculty at Department of Zoology, University of Madras, he joined SASTRA University, in the year 2010 as Senior Assistant Professor, in the Department of Bioengineering, School of Chemical and Biotechnology. He went on to establish the Laboratory for Inflammation Research here, with research in the area of toxicology, oxidative stress biology and inflammation in diseases. After serving for 7 years, he is currently working as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, Department of Zoology, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Mylapore, Chennai. He was one of the initial 5 faculty members who were involved in the conceptualization and establishment of Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) at SASTRA University. He has published over 60 research articles and 5 book chapters, with 1900 citations and h-index of 27. His research interests include, Immuno-toxicology, Oxidative stress biology and Inflammation signaling.
